This is a website where I talk about my Indev island world, which is part of my polyworld.
I started working on this island on January 3, 2026. I've generated it as a normal sized square island world with normal theme in version Indev 0.31 20100128-2304. The reason why I chose this version is that it is the last version of Indev with all of the debug chests. But I didn't play on this world in this version as I instead played on version Indev 20100223, as that is the last Indev version.
There were two reasons why I chose to do it this was. Firstly, I wanted to have access to blocks which would normally be unobtainable, so I could build with them, which I why I chose to generate the world in that specific version. Secondly, I didn't care about having all the different world generations in my polyworld, or playing throug different versions of Indev, so I only played in the last one, which should be the most stable.
My goal for this world was to to turn it into a base that I will once I reach Infdev. Of course I don't plan to use this base forever, instead I'll likely move out during Indev. Originally I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually play this phase of Minecraft development as part of my polyworld project, but in the end I ended up coming up with two. The first being that it would be nice to experience Indev for the first time and the second was that I could take break from my Classic world to invite some friends who would build in it, to make it more interesting.
This world wasn't chosen completely randomly, instead I generated several islands, saved the ones that that I liked and then from those I chose the island that I liked the most. My criteria for choosing an island that I like were that had a hill and wasn't too messy (having a lava lake was a bonus).
I've already finished working on this world and once I'm done with the Classic world I plan to import both into an Infdev 20100227-1433 world which I will get using a saving mod, so that I have access to a brick pyramid. My plan is to use an Infdev world which has a large lake/ocean at spawn, so I can place the Indev world in the middle as it is an island. To be safe I'll of course need to do a bunch of testing to make sure the worlds get imported properly.
You can check out the world yourself if you want to, just download it using this link.
Here's an isometric screenshot of my Indev island, to show how it looks finished:
This is a map of the Indev world, hover over it to see how I divided the world into different sections. You'll be able to click each sections to get more info about it.
This is a purely decorative section of the island, which is made of three builds, those being the Beach area, the Statue on an island and a House with a garden.
It is one of the first areas that I started to work on, along with the base area, because the statue was the first build that I completed.
The reason why I decided to build the statue first was because I wanted to have an origin point for this world, so I could look at it and say that the statue was
the first thing I did, just like I did in my Classic world. It also has the same design as the statue in the Classic world, expect it has a spear instead of a sword.
The beach area is something I did because this is an island and I thought that all private islands should have a nice beach. And the reason
why I chose the spot that I chose for it was that it already had a bunch of sand, so I decided to expand on it. There isn't too much to this, just some beach umbrellas
with beach towels and chairs under them, some sand sculptures and a beach bar with a seating area.
The house is the last thing that I built in this world and the reason I built it was because, as this is part of a polyworld project, I wanted to have a place where I could put
a bed in the future. Altought I suspect I won't use the bed too much, as I will likely move out not too long after they get added. But I might also use this house for storage
as there is quite a bit of free space in the attic. Aside from the attic, this house has five rooms, a hallway and a staircase that leads to the attic. The five rooms are - an entrance hall,
a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen connected to a pantry. The kitchen also has an entrance to the outside which is right next to a staircase you can use to get to the farming area.
Aside from building the house I have decided to strenghten the cliff around the house with wood and cobblestone and I've built a bunch of custom trees to make a garden.
Another purely decorative section, which most likely won't have any purpose to it, even in the future. It is made of two builds, those being a ship and a dock. The reason why I decided
to build these was because I thought it would be cool and to give this place some more lore, because you can imagene that the ship can be used to transport cargo and passangers
to and from the island. This is why I also place some crates and other things on the dock and into the ship and added the crane - to make it look like cargo is being loaded or unloaded.
The design of the ship is inspired by the one in the Classic world, but I tried to improve it by for example adding some planks to represent ropes and improving the sails. I'd say that the
ship definitely looks better than the one in the Classic world, but there are still some improvements that could be done to the design, for example making the deck go higher above the waterline.
This area is currently purely decorative, but will become more important in the future. That's because there are five builds which will become useful in the future versions. Those being a
station, a storage building, a sugar cane farm, a cactus farm and sapling storage building. I tried to make it so each building has a unique design.
When it comes to the individual buildings, there isn't too much to say about them as their purpose is obvious. The cactus and sugar cane farms will be used for farming, they will be stored
in the storage building and the station will be used to reach this island via minecart in the future.
The only building whose purpose isn't entirely clear is the sapling storage building.
After all, why would I plant saplings to store them, when I can simply put them into a chest in my main storage system? Well, the answer has to the with the sapling change that happens in
Beta 1.5. That's because before Beta 1.5 the game used metadata to determine the growth of saplings. Which meant that when you planted a sapling in those versions it had metadata of 0
and the value kept increasing until it hit a certain value when it grew (if it could). But Beta 1.5 changed things and made it so that metadata determines the type of a sapling. This means
that saplings in different growth stages planted before Beta 1.5 would turn into different saplings in Beta 1.5. Of course, some of you may already know about this and also about the fact
that similar thing happens to leaves, which is why I could use leaves to get the saplings instead of placing them down. But that's not entirely true, because according to my testing I can
use this method to get dark oak and acacia saplings in Release 1.7, which I can't get from the leaves. But even if it was true I would still build, because I think it's an interesting
and unique thing to do.
This section of the base was originally built to be purely decorative as I thought I wouldn't need another storage system aside from the main one, but later on I decided to put some chests
into the warehouse so I could use it for bulk storage. I currently use it to store dirt, but later on I plan to store cobblestone and other things that I'll have in bulk.
As for the lighthouse,
that is a purely decorative build, for which I've decided to use the stereotypical design with red and white stripes. I also put some lava at the top using a lava source block to make it a
"proper" lighthouse.
Aside from the warehouse and the lighthouse this section also includes a small island, which I left unused because I'm thinking of using it in Infdev. My current plan is
to build a small parking lot on it and connect it to a small bridge leading to mainland.
The most important area of the island, which has several builds in it. Those being the garden, the tower, the storage system, the furnace room and the wheat farm which is located undeground.
The garden is currently
a purely decorative part of this section, which will become useful in later versions as I have a nether portal frame prepared in it for fast travel. Originally I wanted to build my house in
this section, but I've later decided that it was too small for one, so made a garden instead. This is also the first section of this island, to which I added the custom trees. The first trees
I added weren't built, instead I slowly grew them, which took quite a long time. But later on I learned how to dupe stuff, so I duped some leaves and started building my custom trees
instead of growing them, which gave me a lot more freedom.
Next build is the tower which reaches the height limit (altough it doesn't look like it if you're used to more moder versions).
This tower isn't purely decorative, as I use it to store all of the special items. By special I mean things that you can be only obtained from debug chests in Indev.
Then there's the storage
system, the purpose of which is self-explanatory. The storage system is divided into three floors, where each floor houses items based on the rarity. The lowest floor has commond items, that is things
like dirt, cobblestone and logs. The second floor has uncommon items, that is things like cooked pork, wheat and hostile mob drops. The third floor has rare items, that is diamonds, iron, gold
and things made out of them. If you're inside the storage system you can go up to the garden, down to the furnace room and wheat room, you can use the entrance on the lowest floor to reach
the lower bridhe over the lava lake, or go from the top floor to the house and the higher placed bridge.
The furnace furnace room is another room whose purpose is obivous, but aside from smelting
I also use it to store the fuel.
The last part of this section is the wheat farm, which is located at the bottom of the world. It is quite big, even bigger than I originally intended it, as a
single full harvest would give you 24 stacks of wheat. The only problem is that it can't be properly used in Indev as mobs can spawn on any full block with sufficient light level and trample
my crops. But I do plan to use it in future versions. It also has a small storage system next to it, used to store wheat and seeds. The walls are decorated simply, as I made a rainbow of sorts
which goes from red to purple and back to red on each side. But the ceiling is more complicated as I decided to recreate the "Four-byte burger" (pixel art my Jack Haeger, recreated by Stuart
Brown a.k.a Ahoy), but in smaller size.
Another purely decorative area, which only consits of two natural areas, two bridges and and a lava lake.
The lava lake was something that was part of the island when I originally generated it,
but it was much smaller, so I decided to make it bigger in one of my streams, because bigger=better in this case. The reason why I expanded it the way I did is because the terrain some
of the terrain around the lake sat under the surface of it, so I simply flooded them. I later also removed some terrain to make the lake even bigger.
At the same time as I expanded the lake
I also built the two bridges so I could cross the expanded lake. Of course I didn't expand the lake before building the bridges as that would be to dangerous given the lack of sneaking.
Instead I first removed the lava lake, then expanded it, flooded it with water get an idea of how the lake will look like, built the bridges (which was easier with the water breaking my falls),
drained the lake and then filled it with lava.
Next are the natural areas, where the first one is the one next to the lava lake, which is filled with flowers and nothing else. The reason why
I decided to make it look the way it does is because I couldn't think of any other good ideas when it comes to what to do with it. I had to other ideas of course, those being to build a bunch of
custom trees and some flowers or to remove the grass and expand the lake. But I felt those wouldn't make it unique enough from the other areas, so I did this.
Then there's the other natural area
which is located near the steep shoreline which has a lot of pointy rocks alongside it. The reason why I built those was because initially there was some terrain here which went a few block
above the ocean level, thus making in inacccessible using a boat (if you ignore the fact that you can place and break blocks). So I decided to expand on that and I raised the shoreline
to be several blocks above the ocean level and built the rocks to make this area of the island unreachable by boat. Later on I also added the trees to make it look kind of wild.
